Let your creativity be-Gin!

If you’re anything like me, you will often find your glass recycling bin full of beautiful gin bottles, and because it feels like such shame to throw them away, you may often find yourself rescuing them from the recycle bin and putting them in a safe place to be recycled at a later date.

Today, I finally got round to up-cycling some miniature gin bottles that I have been been holding on to. In fact, for the two Conker gin bottles, this is there second up-cycle as they had previously been used as diffusers!

Being full of cold I left work at 10am today and, feeling very negative and low, I decided a bit of crafting would be the perfect way to lift my spirits, and it really was. I nipped in to Hobby Craft and purchased some small artificial flowers, some twine and some double sided tape, drove home and set to work. Cost of materials for this were:

Flowers: £6 Twine: £1.50

Crafting is good for your mind, I find when I’m having an anxious day, getting creative really helps keep my mind occupied and stops me stressing over things I really needn’t.

I started by rinsing out all four bottles and put them to one side to dry. I then unpackaged the flowers and set about creating the perfect arrangement. I’m no expert at flower arranging but it’s something I really enjoy so creating these little bouquets was a real treat for me. I chose the white and yellow colour combination to go with the bottles and also with my new bedroom colour scheme, which you guessed it, is going to be white, yellow and grey!

Once the bottles had dried for about 15-20 minutes, I gave them a good shake upside down to get any remaining water out and I began to wrap the twine around the rims. I started at the top and tied a tight knot. It’s important to leave enough twine to dangle down to be tied up at the bottom. Then, holding the dangling twine below, I wrapped the rest of the twine tightly over and around working down the rim until I reached the bottom. I then tied this off with the bit left dangling and trimmed down and/or tied in a neat bow.

Once I was happy with my flower arrangements I twisted the stems and folded them up so they would fit in the small bottles. I also tied a small length of twine close to the top of the bunch to keep them secure and slotted them into the bottles. I can’t tell you how many times I messed around with these arrangements, but eventually I got them just right.

I’m super pleased with how these turned out and think they look mega cute in my lounge and bedroom!

Making these pretty little pieces has really helped improve my mindset this week and has got my brain thinking up new ideas. I just need more gin bottles to play around with. (better get drinking!)

I’d love to see some of your creations and ideas so please head over to my IG and FB pages and share them with me.

Thanks for reading!
